Abstract
Diversifications of apple cultivars, improvement of fruit quality and tree growth habit were some of the major objectives in the breeding work.
In 2005, two columnar autochthonous scab resistant apple cultivars (‘Nicol’ and ‘Colmar’) were released.
The new columnar cultivars differed from other cultivars in their growing habit.
The fruit of these two new lines were medium size (125 – 150 g) with flat, greenish – yellow skin striped with dark red, and crisp, pink-tinged flesh.
Harvest time was in early September and storage life extended into December.
