Abstract
This research was conducted to investigate what color names derived from plant names were known by Japanese, in relation to generations (recorded as decade-differences in age classes). Participants were asked to describe the color names derived from plant names (CNPN). The results of this study suggested that more aged generations tended to answer the CNPN were ornamental, although the younger generations tended to answer the CNPN used for foods.
The CNPN that many younger participants answered may be related to paints used in educational programs.
Those of many elder participants are related to traditional ornamental plants.
