Abstract
Nomenclatural standards are becoming a vital tool for the horticultural taxonomist.
The use of nomenclatural standards will increase with time as they become more widely known and more critical questions are asked about the synonymy and distinctness of cultivated plant taxa.
It is therefore important that the nomenclatural standards created at present show the characters that future taxonomists will require to assign epithets to cultivars correctly.
