Abstract
Horticultural therapy is a growing topic in social care and health care in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland.
Although different legislator systems rule social care and health care in these countries, by founding the International Association for HortTherapy (IGGT) as a common platform, steps were taken to define the common ground for horticultural therapy.
The state of the art is very diverse.
Besides a widely spread practice in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland, the educational opportunities are relatively scarce but growing.
The first steps toward professionalization have been accomplished.
A short description of the related scientific initiatives is also provided.
