Abstract
Development of cost-effective strategies to manage brown rot caused by the fungi of genus Monilinia of peach includes the use of predicting models to forecast plant diseases.
A disease forecast model to predict blossom blight, caused by M. laxa, was evaluated in the location of Monospita Naoussa, Macedonia, Greece.
The results showed that the number of blighted shoots was zero both on the trees sprayed according to the spray programme of growers and the trees sprayed according to the predicting model.
Untreated trees had a relatively high number of blighted shoots.
Two spray applications were conducted by growers and one by predicting model.
Generally, this work indicated that the forecasting model can be used to predict infection by brown rot and to schedule fungicide applications.
Further investigations should be conducted to correlate the level of risk with by brown rot incidence in order to determine when fungicide sprays are economically justified.
