Abstract

The proposal concerns the regeneration and enhancement study of “Saint Taxiarches” cemetery in N. Ionia, Volos and its integration into the urban spatial structure, as a green area according to the new City Plan of Volos.
The aim of the study is to highlight the specific nature and the historical character of the area, together with its connection to the urban spatial structure.
The concept of the proposal is the “transition” either as a journey to eternity or as time in history.
The proposed new interventions are contributing to the conceptual approach of the area.
They also create an uninterrupted parallel “communication” of individual regions, which differ in the degree of intervention, in order to identify the specific aspects of the historic route.
All interventions aim to create a sustainable green space and support the transition to both the present and future, through strong connecting elements inspired from tradition, culture and history.
