Abstract
In Europe, 750 kt of new agricultural plastics are brought onto the market every year.
Plastic products are an essential part of modern agriculture.
They save water, fertilizers and pesticides and increase production yields.
After use, they can be discarded as waste or serve as a resource for new products.
The sustainable circular approach is possible depending on the way the material is collected.
In Europe, national collection schemes have been set up putting into practice the extended producer responsibility (EPR) principle based on the shared responsibility approach.
The European standard is based on the most successful principles used in collection systems for agricultural plastics.
