Abstract
Trichoderma spp. is a fungal genus that occurs in almost all soils and habitats with high amounts of organic matter.
It is a fast-growing secondary opportunistic invader beneficial to agriculture because it protects crops against diseases and increases crop yield.
Soil sampling was performed in the hop production area in the Órbigo valley in the province of León, Spain.
Fungal genomic DNA isolation and identification were carried out.
Five Trichoderma species were identified, growing in interaction with hop plants in Órbigo valley.
Both the crop and autochthonous microorganisms have co-evolved over time, also adapting to environmental changes. Trichoderma isolates could be applied to promote hop development and reduce pathogen attacks without interfering with natural enemies, achieving a long-term sustainable crop without environmental pollution.
In conclusion, the selection of autochthonous Trichoderma can help to control hop phytopathogens.
