Abstract
The research problem is to verify the efficiency of Moringa oleifera (MO) used as a natural demulsifier in the treatment of produced water.
It is known in the literature that the use of MO is a good alternative as a coagulant agent, indicated in the conventional water treatment system, replacing the use of chemical clarifying agents in the water clarification process, because, in addition to being biodegradable, it can be used simply and effectively as a social technology.
The hypothesis of this project is: Moringa oleifera used as a coagulant/clarifier in water treatment can be effective as a demulsifying agent in the treatment of produced water.
This research aims to develop a new demulsifying product that may be economically viable in breaking the oil/water emulsion in produced water, studying the influence of some variables in the formation of the emulsion.
The analyzed parameters were: pH, turbidity, conductivity, total dissolved solids, total alkalinity, total acidity, total hardness, calcium, magnesium, chlorides, sodium, potassium and OGC. In the results found, it was observed that after carrying out the jar test, varying the dosage of the natural demulsifier, added directly to the raw water without prior treatment, the addition of the natural demulsifier (MO) at a concentration of 150 mg L-1 was considered the dosage optimal, because there was a greater reduction in turbidity and TOG compared to raw produced water.
Turbidity reduced by 55.2%, while TOG reduced by 66.7%.
