The Modern Citrus Cultivars Descriptive Database

The Modern Citrus Cultivars Descriptive Database (MCCDD) combines information about nomenclature, fruit types, taxonomy, intellectual property protection, breeders and the institutions with which they are affiliated, pedigrees, descriptions of trees and fruits, and bibliographical citations with links.
It is currently in Excel format and contains 1,836 horizontal rows, one for each instance of intellectual property (IP) protection (plant patent or plant breeders’ rights) for each cultivar; 1,215 distinct cultivars appear in the work so far, and others will be added.
The two main criteria for inclusion are: 1) all citrus cultivars for which a plant patent or plant breeders’ rights (PBR) application has been made; 2) citrus cultivars introduced after 1980 that have not been described in Hodgson (1967) or Saunt (2000). This work is international in scope, and includes cultivars traditionally considered to belong to the genera Citrus, Poncirus, Fortunella, Microcitrus, Eremocitrus, and their hybrids.
It appears online on the website of the University of California, Riverside’s Givaudan Citrus Variety Collection, and is regularly updated.
It is intended to serve a broad range of citrus scientists and stakeholders, including germplasm curators, geneticists, breeders, nurseries, growers, IP rights managers, and fruit marketers.
