Abstract
It is critical to address the 21st century’s primary issue of food production for a rising population while not expanding the agricultural footprint.
Urban food production has the potential to solve this dilemma.
It provides various benefits, including improved food security near the cities and social and psychological advantages for urban residences.
However, while resource-rich, urban agriculture faces environmental issues, particularly in arid countries such as Australia, which suffer from water constraints and greenhouse gas emissions.
Climate-smart urban agriculture (CSUA) is a relatively new concept promising urban agriculture practices that are environmentally conscious and sustainable in the face of climate change.
This study will elaborate on the concept and principles of climate-smart urban agriculture and suggest more sustainable, climate-resilient agricultural systems for future sustainable urban development.
