Abstract
Genetical breeding studies which aim at breeding of new summer genotypes with early ripening have mainly in view the improving of fruit size, their commercial appearance (fondant flesh – B. Giffard type), simultaneous ripening time, as well as a longer storing period (without internal breakdown).

The program started in 1971 at Pitesti – Maracineni had in view 3 varieties used as parents : Napoca (ripening time in the 2nd and 3rd decade of August) fruit size 130 – 150 g, very productive 30 – 40 t/ha, medium vigour and good affinity with quince), B. Giffard and B.p.
Morettini.

According to the objectives, of the 500 hybrids, 13 promising elites have been selected and grafted on quince and Pirus seedlings, at present the trees being 4 years old.

In the last two years, 3 new pear varieties with early and very early ripening time have named : Trivale, Triumf and Argessis, the other elites being under test, regarding their fruit yield and behaviour in different areas of the country.

Taking into consideration the valuable characters and features of the new pear varieties and hybrids, these come to complete the national and world pear assortment rather poor in this kind of varieties, at present including only : Bella di Giugno, Precoce di Fiorano, B. Giffard and B.p.
Morettini varieties.

Drawing 1 shows the intervals of ripening and the fruit mean weight of the new promising varieties and hybrids in comparison with the old varieties mentioned above.

It has been ascertained that the selected material gave the possibility to have a variety assortment with the ripening time from early July till August 20, at that time Napoca variety being ripe and Williams variety after (fig. 1).
