Abstract
Development of the floral nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus was followed through different stages of flower-bud opening and transition to fruit initials in different citrus species and cultivars worked on sour orange.
Values of the total N, K and P per 100 flower-buds reached the maximum at the elongated-style stage of floral bud opening.
Abscission of corolla, and roecium and the style-stigma portion was accompanied by a sharp decline in the floral values of N, K and P. Both nitrogen and phosphorus of the orange ovaries were nearly duplicated with the transition from the elongated-style stage to the fallen-style one.
The developing mandarin ovaries were thoroughly of lower nitrogen content than those of the other studied species.
Anthers of “Baladi” orange were of higher phosphorus content than those of “Washington navel” orange.
