Abstract
The greenhouse industry has expanded notoriously in the coastal areas of the south of Spain, based on the use of very simple low cost structures (most of them with an almost flat roof), covered with polyethylene (PE) film.
Climate is far from optimal inside these plastic greenhouses because of the limited ventilation and lack of heating.

Air CO2 concentrations were characterised in flat roof and in low roof angle greenhouses, during the spring season, with melon and bean.
The recorded CO2 values, at different heights, show reductions relative to the normal CO2 levels that exceed 20%. These values can reduce photosynthesis and, consequently, crop yield.
