Abstract
With cokriging, estimates and "estimation variances" of the gravimetric moisture content were obtained, using one additional random significantly correlated function: the index of soil aggregate stability to water (r= 0.54 for p < 0.05).

The field site is located along the Ionic Coast, near Metaponto (MT) and the soil is an alluvial clay, classified as Aquic Vertic Xerofluvent, influenced by a shallow and saline groundwater.

The semivariograms and cross-semivariograms were obtained as well as the sample correlation between the soil water content and the auxiliary function.
Contour maps of estimated values of soil water content using kriging and cokriging were plotted; they were not found significantly different.

It was then shown that the additional complexity of cokriging might be justified only if the magnitude of the sample correlation is greater than 0.5.
