Abstract
Several physiological indicators of plant water status (Predawn, stem and leaf water potential; stomatal conductance and maximum daily growth and shrinkage of fruit and trunk) were tested as criteria for irrigation scheduling on peach trees.

The daily variation of trunk diameter (maximum daily growth and maximum daily shrinkage) and stem water potential were the most responsive to water stress.
The daily variation of fruit diameter was not as sensitive: the daily growth was affected too late in the season and maximum daily shrinkage was very dependent on fruit growth stage.
The stomatal conductance was discarded since the stomata of this species were responsive to air humidity.
