Abstract
In Holland we practice the white-asparagus culture.
The cutting-season begins in the end of April and ends about 24th June.
The cutting of the white spears takes a lot of labour.
For two reasons it is interesting to prolongate the season, namely the possibility of a very good price in the early season and the possibility to spread the harvest season by which the need of labour will be spread.

In the south of France asparagus are forced already for many years.
For this purpose very low glasshouses or Dutch frames are used.
By forcing at different times harvest can be possible from Christmas until the middle of June.

To check the possibility of forcing asparagus in Holland we have started forcing experiments in 1964.
