Abstract
A simple model for estimating the components of transmitted radiation (direct and diffuse radiation) inside a greenhouse has been developed.
Based on surface projection (vertical walls, gables, roof…), this model calculated values of greenhouse transmissivity, taking into account :

  • greenhouse orientation and latitude,

  • number and dimension of spans,

  • roof slope,

  • covering material,

  • total area of obstacles to radiation penetration (glazing bars, screens, heating pipes,…)

Some examples of greenhouse transmissivity are presented and compared with measured values.
Agreement seems to be quite satisfactory, if we consider the simplicity of the model.
