Abstract
High UV-stabilized PE-air-bubble foil was tested under different climatic conditions and found to be a promising cover material for greenhouses.

The material is available in individual sheets of 2 meters width with welded weatherstrip.
It is characterized by a high transparency of light combined with good heat insulation.
The weatherstrip can easily be run into a PVC-profile which serves to fix the foil on the substructure of the greenhouse.
This fixing method can be used to cover conventional arch type greenhouses as well as saddle type greenhouses.
It enables easy and time saving installation and replacement of cover foil and provides improved stability against storm and snow.

Practical experience in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Yugoslavia, Greece, Jamaica and Kuwait showed that – compared to conventional covers such as glass or other plastic foils – this new greenhouse covering system has significant advantages.
In 1989, a total greenhouse area of about 13 ha was covered already with air bubble foil.
