Abstract
One of the aspects of glasshouse automation which has not yet been successfully developed is the control of incoming solar radiation.
This may be required either to assist in the control of air temperature or to reduce the effects of direct radiation on the plants.
This paper describes one approach to this problem in which a continuously-circulated film of a suitable liquid is maintained on the glasshouse roof by a circulating pump and a system of distribution pipes.

The system is capable of fully-automatic control through the agency of either a photo-electric cell or thermostat and has proved capable of absorbing 50% of the incident solar radiation.
Details of its performance are given in the paper.
