Abstract
Specialty cut flowers are defined as species other than roses, carnations and chrysanthemums (Armitage, 1990). They are also referred to as minor cut flowers, summer flowers or field flowers and include annual, perennial and bulbous herbaceous species as well as woody species.
Conservative estimates (USDA, 1988, USDA,1991) showed the production of specialty cut flowers in the United States has significantly increased in recent years and shown a larger production growth than standard cut flower species (Table 1). Growers of specialty cut flowers may be found in most states but the greatest concentration is in Florida, California and the Midwest.
