Abstract
Data were obtained from several long-term tomato crops in order to assess the time dependent uptake of (macro) – nutrients.
Calculations were carried out by means of depletion of nutrients in the root environment and by means of dry matter analysis.
Changes in the uptake ratios were found for K:Ca and K:Mg.
The K uptake is strongly related to fruit load.
From the data, guidelines were drawn up for the nutrient supply, based on truss number at anthesis, to predict the uptake ratios.
With the guidelines, application of nutrients could be adjusted more precisely to the crop’s requirements and hence the leaching of nutrients could be decreased.
