Abstract
The extract from Vietnamese coriander leaf was analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Of the 50 compounds isolated, structural assignments were made for 27. Saturated aliphatic aldehydes were the principal constituents, accounting for 78 percent of the compounds by weight.
While the identity of the species is somewhat uncertain, the plant has been designated as Polygonum odoratum Lour. after an analysis of the essential oil.
The oil was compared with the leaf oil from coriander, Coriandrum sativum L., and observed to have a similar alkanal composition.
