Abstract
Ornamental horticulture, a production sector characterized by numerous, often small, growers, seems to be in great need of an integrated research system connecting research, development and extension.

Each country realizes its own system according to local social and economic conditions and cultural traditions.
Since inland and international conditions are evolving, continuous attention is required in order to adapt the system to the new situations.

For this purpose it appears useful to examine the structures of technically advanced countries, expecially where modifications to improve their efficiency have recently been made.
An analysis of present trends in elaboration and diffusion of technology for horticulture was carried out by a selected group of scientists.
