Abstract
The improvement of organoleptic value of peach fruits (mainly of nectarines) is an important objective in the peach breeding program carried on at Florence.
By crossing "Honey Gold" x "Red Diamond" in 1981 the yellow flesh nectarine selection "DOFI-81.316.016", interesting for its particular sweetness, has been obtained.
Once confirmed its high performance in vegetative behaviour (high and constant productivity) and fruit quality, a new late ripening nectarine cultivar named "Maria Dolce" was released.
The fruits reach soon full skin overcolour and very high organoleptic value.
