Abstract
A cassava chipping machine was designed and produced.
It consists of mechanisms for slicing and dicing roots, in addition to the feeding, power, and drive units.
Performance at motor speeds between 360 and 400 rpm was rated satisfactory, with the dimensions of the sliced product (chip) near the desired value of 25 mm.
The best chip geometry was obtained at a motor speed of 400 rpm with a throughput of 0.27 kg/sec (970 kg/h). Dicing results were not satisfactory and indicate the need for further improvement in the design of the machine.
