Abstract
In a twelve-year experiment with Prunus cerasus cv. ‘Stevnsberry’, central leader trees at 5 m between rows were compared with hedgerows at 4 and 3 m.
The hedges were hedged about 35 days after bloom to facilitate regrowth in the same season.
In the first years the hedges yielded higher than the central leader trees, but the accumulated yield after twelve years were about the same for the systems.
Light studies were made and the surface of the hedges became very dense, resulting in a lower well-illuminated fraction of the canopy.
