Abstract
TOMGRO is a comprehensive, 70 state-variable greenhouse-tomato model.
Under normal growing conditions these variables are very well inter-correlated, so that a considerable model reduction is possible.
Under normal growing conditions these variables are very well inter-correlated, so that a considerable model reduction is possible.
A compact, single-state-variable, two-stage crop model was developed and its parameters estimated by comparison with simulations with TOMGRO. The two main parameters of the compact model are (1) the size of the crop when it switches from the vegetative to the reproductive stage, and (2) the fraction of net assimilation partitioned to fruit.
These parameters are shown to be essentially invariant with cultivation intensity.
Therefore, the model can be calibrated for a given climate (location) and later used for control applications.
