Abstract
Leaves of symptomless Fragaria ananassa Duch. cv.
Cacanská raná were grafted onto F. vesca indicator clones.
In thin section electron microscopy of F. vesca leaves that developed symptoms, groups of isometric virus-like particles surrounded by a membrane were found.
Similar virus-like particles were partially purified from leaves of F. vesca and mechanically transmitted to herbaceous host plants.
Virus was successfully purified from N. occidentalis 37 B symptomatic plants and polyclonal antiserum was prepared.
On the basis of serological reactions, symptomatology on herbaceous hosts and electron microscopy studies the virus was identified as tobacco necrosis virus.
This is the first report of tobacco necrosis virus in strawberry in the Czech Republic and demonstrates the presence of tobacco necrosis in leaves on infected strawberry plants.
