OBSERVATION WITH ENTOLOMA CLYPEATUM MYCORRHIZAL FUNGUS IN HUNGARIAN ORCHARDS

Abstract
Investigations of the last ten years in Pest county, Hungary, showed that Entoloma clypeatum (L. Fr.) Kummer mycorrhizal fungus frequently appears in Hungarian orchards independent of soil type (sandy to clay). This fungus was most frequently found in apricot orchards, followed by plum, cherry and pear orchards.
In pot experiment, apricot seedlings treated with Entoloma clypeatum spore suspension were stronger and tolerated stress situations (high temperature and water shortage) better than the control ones.
An investigation conducted in an apricot orchard showed that Entoloma clypeatum symbiosis occurrence with trees was 16–21%. The trees living in symbiotic relation with this mycorrhizal fungus had greener foliage, 50% less tree decay, and had 12% more yield than those trees without mycorrhizal fungus.
