Abstract
The possible involvement of cytokinins in flower bud formation of apple has been studied.
Endogenous cytokinins have been detected in inmature seeds which presumably are produced in these tissues since no cytokinin activity was found in xylem sap at the time when seeds were analyzed.
The application of exogenous cytokinins to spurs at the time of flower bud initiation increased the amount of return bloom, whereas radioactive cytokinin accumulated mainly in the bourse bud.
This valuable information provides basic technology for the regulation of flower bud formation in apple.
