Abstract
Earliness and self-compatibility of Chinese kale (Brassica oleracea L. var. alboglabra L. H. Bailey) were studied.
Plants with white petal (W-A and W-B type) and plants with white or yellow petal (W/Y type) was earlier than those of plants with yellow petal (Y-A and Y-B type). In twenty one cultivars of Chinese kale, seeds were developed by self-pollination even at the flowering stage.
But the number of seeds per pod by cross-pollination was more than that by self-pollination.
The thousand seeds weight by cross-pollination was bigger than that by self-pollination.
The thousand seeds weight of late flower cultivar decreased slightly in comparison with early flowering cultivar.
There were significant correlations between the pod length or diameter and the number of seeds.
