Abstract
New Zealand does not currently have a cranberry industry.
However, due to a broadly suitable climate, availability of resources such as peat soils, and an established horticultural industry, cranberries appear to be a suitable crop for New Zealand growers.
Local demand and awareness of cranberry products is growing, there are established processing channels, and an efficient export infrastructure.
We report preliminary trials to determine climatic suitability within New Zealand, and to develop expertise in the management of cranberries under local conditions.
