Abstract
Accurate models for predicting the total leaf area, shoot fresh weight, and dry weight of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. cv.
Sekwang) were developed using the plant height, maximum leaf length, maximum leaf width of tomato, and some combinations of these variables.
Sixteen regression equations commonly used in growth modeling, were compared with respect to the adaptability.
Three models developed were LA=452-19.8xH-23.7xW+1.56xHW (R2=0.958) for total leaf area (LA), SFW=39.06-0.891xH-3.083xW+0.092xHW (R2=0.939) for shoot fresh weight (SFW), and SDW= 4.937 +0.178xH-0.766xL+0.007xHL (R2=0.821) for shoot dry weight (SDW), where H=plant height, L= maximum leaf length, W=maximum leaf width, HL=HxL, HW=HxW, and LW= maximum LxW.
