REPORT ON AN EFFICIENT SCHEME TO DEVELOP CERTIFIED CLONAL PROPAGATING MATERIAL IN AUSTRIA

Within eight years an Austrian project succeeded in developing certified clones at high phytosanitary and genetic levels as well.
High genetic level was hold by selection out of well tested old clones using previous results or – using the experiences of farmers – out of selected fields of local varieties.
To achieve a high phytosanitary level multiple ELISA, INDEXING in climatic chambers and additionally in-vitro thermotherapy (cytokine-free MS-mediums) were carried out.
Preservation of biodiversity within varieties was granted by PCR-selected clones according to reported biotypes.
After quality control by microsatellite analysis in-vitro culture was used for large scale propagating the mothervines.
They have been planted ungrafted into sandy soils.
Official acception was possible with the first 42 new clones during the first yield and after normalising of ampelographic characters temporarily modified by thermotherap
