GROWING TO A NEW BALANCE IN THE PRODUCE INDUSTRY

The fresh produce industry is in upheaval at the moment.
The old structures do not fit anymore but the new ones are not ready yet.
It is expected that within, let us say, ten years a limited number of European / worldwide operating marketing and sales companies will supply the international multiples and catering industry.
A larger number of smaller companies will be the supplier of local markets.
The agriculture in general and the produce sector specific will become more and more a normal part of the economy and less a sector with a special status.
This professionalization process is going on.
Companies are growing bigger and stronger.
They are capable to fulfill the wishes of the markets and the demands concerning food safety and chain management.
This process will not be without pain, but at the end of the day there will be a new balance in the produce industry.
