TRACKING & TRACING OF GLASSHOUSE VEGETABLES
Due to recent food safety scares the consumer is getting more and more critical towards the food he eats.
The consumer demands more information about the origin and safety of the food that he consumes.
This information relates for example to food hygiene, the way the food is produced, use of chemicals, genetic modification, environmental issues and ethics.
Because of these developments governments, consumer associations, retailers and other companies demand that the supply chains will be more transparent. In this presentation DLV will start with an introduction into tracking & tracing.
After that the results of the Dutch status quo in tracking & tracing of glasshouse vegetables will be discussed.
The Dutch situation for traceability of fruit and vegetables was commissioned for the Dutch productboard for horticulture earlier this year.
Results of the study reveal that there is too little attention for co-operation and transparency in the supply chain.
After a presentation of the results of the study a guideline for the realization of tracking & tracing at the company level will be presented.
The presentation ends with four possible solutions in creating transparent supply chains.
