Abstract
An experimental cultivar of rhubarb (Rheum rhaponticum) developed significant susceptibility to infection by both Ramularia rhei and Ascochyta rhei following commercial micropropagation.
The original, vegetatively propagated material showed no such susceptibility.
Both pathogens caused leaf and petiole spot disease at economically damaging levels.
Changes in growth habit and vigour of this clone have previously been reported following micropropagation and possible physiological, genetic and epigenetic explanations are considered.
