Abstract
The study was carried out to elucidate effects of promalin and salicylic acid (SA) on tree growth and fruit quality of Tsugaru apples.
Promalin at 18 mg L-1 was sprayed twice to the clusters when king blossom was completely open and three days later.
SA at 500 and 1,000 mg L-1 was sprayed 30, 60, and 90 days after full bloom.
Shoot growth was not affected by promalin and SA. Leaf area and leaf weight were increased by promalin.
Chlorophyll content tended to decrease as SA level increased.
Fruit weight tended to increase by promalin.
Soluble solids content was the lowest with 1,000 mg L-1 SA treated 60 DAFB, and firmness was decreased by promalin.
Harvest date was delayed by SA treatment.
Seed number of fruits tended to decrease by promalin.
Seed weight tended to increase by promalin and 60 DAFB treatment of 1,000 mg L-1 SA and with the control.
