Abstract
To elucidate the effect of ethephon on fruit quality and maturity of astringent persimmon cv.
Tone Wase, ethephon at 50, 100, and 200 mg L-1 was sprayed 120 days after full bloom.
Leaf area and thickness were not affected by ethephon but chlorophyll content was significantly decreased by 200 mg L-1 ethephon.
Ethephon at 200 mg L-1 decreased % quality fruits and firmness.
Ethephon hastened the fruit maturity by 13 to 22 days.
Hunter a* value increased sharply with ethephon level while Hunter b* value showed a slight increase regardless of ethephon level.
