THE STATUS OF FIRE BLIGHT ON PEAR IN EGYPT

Fire blight (Erwinia amylvora) has become a serious problem after the destructive disease outbreak which occurred in pear orchards in 1982 of the Nile Delta.
The disease spread rapidly in most governorates and, as a consequence of the disease, numerous orchards had been eradicated.
Phytosanitary monitorings have been necessary during years.
The identification of twenty three isolates obtained during this study was performed by traditional bacteriological tests, BIOLOG system and serological techniques (dot-immunobinding assay, DIA and indirect immunofluorescence assay, IFA).
To develop a management strategy to control fire blight in pear orchards, an integrated approach was adopted using organic manure, mineral fertilizers and bactericides.
Integration between organic manure, mineral fertilizers (NPK) and Agrimycin 17 or starner 20% greatly reduced the number of infected blossom clusters and significantly increased pear yield.
