Abstract
The present experiment had for an object to find out the possibilities for obtaining hypocotyl grafted walnut planting material under uncontrolled temperature conditions from the beginning of June till the end of August.
The experiment was carried out with local cultivar ‘Izvor 10’ grafted on rootstock J. regia L. Two variants were tested: І) hypocotyl grafted plants grown in a greenhouse under controlled temperature, corresponding to the respective optimum 27° C (± 4° C) аnd ІІ) grafted by the same method plants, grown on an overshadowed field.
The plants of the two variants were in a stage so that the grafting, the callus formation and the adaptation to elapse during the envisaged period.
The minimum, the maximum and the mean air temperature were registered daily.
The results showed that although the percentage of the successfully grafted plants from variant І was higher – 83.33%, the respective percentage, obtained on the field could be considered as acceptable -52.78 and 61.11%. Obviously the established slight decrease was due to the 24-hours fluctuations of the air temperature under the uncontrolled conditions on the field.
The climatic analysis made showed that the air temperature characteristics during the envisaged period (June-August) of the experimental 2003 were in the norm.
This fact and the obtained experimental results give grounds to make the conclusion that the air temperature characteristics of June, July and August in Bulgaria allow the successful hypocotyl grafting of walnut planting material under unconditioned surrounding.
