Abstract
The rate and total percentage of seedling emergence from tomato seed sown at depths of 1,2,3,5 and 7 cm has been studied.
In glasshouse tests nearly 100% emergence of germinable seeds was obtained with a sowing depth of 3 cm in soil-manure compost and in pure sand.
With increasing depth the percentage emergence decreased.
In heavy clay soil the decrease was noticeable at a depth of 2 cm.
