Abstract
Water stress induced by consecutive years of drought constitutes a major constraint for fig production in Morocco.
However, figs response to water stress differs from genotype to genotype.
The aim of this work is to explore this diversity within fig to locate potential drought-tolerant cultivars, which may eventually cope with water scarcity.
The pre-evaluation carried out on a fig collection at INRA Meknes, Morocco showed that some genotypes can tolerate low water potential as -4 MPa.
The different cultivars studied showed differences in terms of their ability to maintain their water potential during high climatic requirement period; they also show differences in their vegetative growth, their root architecture and also leaf features.
