Abstract
Morphological, anatomical, and histological observations have been performed on ovules of breba fruit of the cv.
Petrelli of common fig.
These observations indicate that the ovules are capable of being fertilized.
The parthenocarpic development of breba may be due to other reasons, such as the high number of ovules in the ovary.
The same observations for the fruits of cv.
Regina, which only produces the second crop (forniti), also confirm that the ovules are capable of being fertilized, although in this case a single large hemianatropous ovule exists in the ovary.
