PRODUCTION OF AMENITY GRASS SEEDS IN THE UNITED KINGDOM

Abstract
The seed production of some amenity grasses was assessed in 1975 and 1976 under U.K. conditions.
Measurements were made on seed yield, seed yield components and seed set.

Seed yields were low compared with those in Holland.
All species also yielded well below their potential and low level of seed set (5 to 18%) was the major factor responsible.
Possible reasons for poor seed yields and seed set in amenity grasses grown for seed are discussed.
