Abstract
A simple mathematical modification of the scaling procedure, from point measurement to whole-tree level, is suggested when sap flow is measured by multi-point Heat Field Deformation (HFD) sensors.
This simplified approach aims to avoid difficulties in calculations related to using values of sap wood depth, which is often unknown a priori.
Results from a case study demonstrate that values of sap flow are identical when using either of the two methods, thus verifying the validity of this new approach.
