Abstract
The worldwide economic transformation has left a lot of wastelands to contemporary cities, including abandoned factories, landfills, military bases, waterfront and so on.
These sites have usually been destroyed and contaminated on different degrees and functions as a double-edged sword to cities.
So, many western cities are renovating some destroyed and contaminated wastelands with large area by transforming them to parks.
This paper analyzes the typical cases of landscape renovation of wasteland in the western world from multi-perspective of ecology, society and culture, and expects to provide experiences to the similar practices in China.
