Abstract
The valorisation and the conservation of the historic gardens and parks is a strong issue in Europe, as the need to keep such a heritage alive is very up to date.
This paper presents a project that is indeed about the proposal of a new way of facing the problem and it is referred to the case study of the Biella province, in Piedmont in the north-west of Italy.
A thorough survey of the gardens and the nurseries was carried out to assess a precise state of the art of the green heritage of the Biella province and on the base of the gathered information a series of criteria were set out for the itineraries.
Seven itineraries were set, of two types: theme itineraries (corresponding to one criterion) and transversal itineraries (grouping more criteria). Each itinerary was also associated with one or more nurseries presenting characteristics that were inherent with the route theme or were historically linked to the gardens.
This work can be considered as a starting point for making owners, nurserymen and tourists aware of the historical parks conservation issue.
