Abstract
Fruits constitute an important part of the Asian diet.
Bananas, plantains and breadfruit are considered staple food in some economically depressed areas of the region.
Mixed fruits are grown in backyards of practically every Asian village and supply the domestic requirements of many rural homes.
But the production of fruits as a commercial crop is gaining popularity in many countries of Asia.
Some Asian fruits that compete in international market centers are produced in marginal environments.
